Interpreting of Muslim/Islamic Events

February 29, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$25

The aim of this course is to help ASL interpreters feel
culturally competent enough to accept job postings for
Muslim/Islamic events. Minnesota Deaf Muslim Community
(MDMC) has been in need of interpreters and have posted jobs
in the past, but have often found them unfilled.
Our aim is to: discuss the cultural norms and expectations for
interpreting at Muslim hosted and/or Islamic events, teach a
number of the essential signs and concepts for interpreting
and apply this knowledge in a simulated experience. As many
of these signs and concepts are unknown to the vast majority
of interpreters.
